Haggling is at the heart of
BootBay - the concept is that, similar to a normal car boot fair, you can haggle for that particular item
until both Seller and Buyer are happy. Let's face it, bartering and haggling are
nothing new and have been around for centuries, but perhaps it's good to think
about why we haggle and how? |
"Go on Guv'nor, knock off
a tenner!" Sometimes, we can see the thing we want or need
but it's just out of our price range. Sometimes, we may feel that the
seller is 'taking the biscuit' and the price really should be lower? But
how to haggle successfully?
"How much!!" Keep in mind that
haggling at silly prices is not going to win you any favours. If an item
is up for £10, chances are that a haggle for £4 just won't do the trick.
Start somewhere in between, say £7.50, and see where this takes you.
Give yourself a ceiling price and stick to it and be prepared to read
the responses on a Haggle email. If the seller has the item at it's
lowest price but more than you are prepared to pay, it's time to take the hint and walk away from the pitch.
"Give us a break!" Ok,
so you have received a silly haggle - perhaps that buyer is just trying
their luck? Remember that a courteous email explaining your refusal can work wonders in increasing the price. Sending a 'not on
your nelly!' email will only get the back-up of the buyer and onward
they will go to another pitch. Whilst the customer is not always right,
proving it so won't win them back!
Haggle Haggle! So how to haggle?
Well it's easy. On a pitch, click on the haggle button next to the item
you wish to haggle on. Enter the price you think and perhaps a message
to which could 'aid' your position. A mail will be sent to the Seller.
The Seller can then decide whether to Raise, Accept or Cancel the
haggle. This takes place on the Pitch Item Status page
(MyBoot>MyPitches>click on the relevant pitch). Remember that if a
haggle is accepted then the item is bought, so you must be serious.
If the Seller decides to raise the haggle,
then it's back into the lap of the Buyer. From MyBoot , the haggle can
be Lowered, Accepted or indeed cancelled. Remember, when lowering,
raising or cancelling a haggle, it's good to add a message to help
clarify the reasons.
And that should be it. As per usual, any
problems please
email us,
otherwise Haggle away!
